Lord Shiva the Destroyer is often seen dancing within an arc of flames. While fire represents destruction, it is also a purifier and all evils are consumed and the old makes way for the new — like a phoenix rising out of the ashes. Shiva’s cosmic dance is said to have not only consumed ignorance, but also the aging and tired universe, to allow for creation of a new one. Through original music composed by famed Indian composer Mr B.V. Balasai and choreography by Cultural Medallion recipient Mrs Santha Bhaskar, NUS Indian Instrumental Ensemble and NUS Indian Dance present this cycle of creation and consumption as the eternal romance that Lord Shiva maintains with his consort, Goddess Parvati.
